Ipsy in August | Glam Bag Review

August is a month that makes me happy and sad at the same time. I am happy that the sun is hot and there are endless beach days. However, I say that I am happy but I am actually sad because the phrase “endless beach days” is a cruel myth unless you have a permanent residence on a Caribbean island (adding Caribbean island residence to my vision board).

Despite the waning summer days, I had my monthly glam bag to look forward to. This month, I had a lot of mixed emotions about some of the products, but that is what sampling is for, right? You win some, you lose some. Here are my thoughts on them:

Chella Eyebrow Defining Gel

I have to thank my lucky stars that I have been blessed with the eyebrows (thanks, Mom and Dad). I really did not see the need for this product. Ths product consists of a clear gel, but I usually use color gels. For example, one of my favorite products to use for eyebrows right now is the Ardell Eyebrow Gel in the shade Dark Brown. I use it every time I shape my eyebrows. One thing I did like was the natural ingredients in the defining gel. It had aloe vera gel, sweet almond oil, chamomile extract, comfrey leaf extract, vitamin E, and kelp. I may have a use for it this product in the future, but for right now I will not need this.

Seraphine Botanicals Liquid Coal Waterproof Liquid Liner

I do not give waterproof products the full credit and appreciation it deserves. I see the wonderful effects it has on some people. Nevertheless, waterproof products are a hard pass for me. I cannot explain it. I would rather risk it all and go without the smudge protection waterproof mascara and/or eyeliner provides. Unfortunately, this is also the case with this eyeliner. Although I absolutely loved that this product is vegan and gluten-free, I did not like the texture of the of the tip. For the most part, I love felt tips on eyeliners but the applicator must be a brush and the eyeliner should be liquid. I am just picky that way. I did not get the easy swoop action across my eyelid when applying this liner and that is definitely the determining factor for me. Overall, I like the idea of waterproof products, but it is just not my cup of tea.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Excessive Lash Arresting Volume Mascara

Highlighters are my favorite makeup products, but mascara comes at a close second. This is a bit funny to me because I usually forget to put on mascara since it is the last item I apply before completing my full look. With Make Up For Ever, they promised volume and they delivered. I have struggle eyelashes, so it takes a whole lot to make me look like I actually have lashes that are visible to the naked eye. This mascara definitely did that for me and more. I applied the mascara to one eye to compare and there was a significant difference. I also got a lot of length in addition to the volume which was another added bonus. It should be noted that you would have to apply this mascara three to four times to achieve your desired look. I usually apply 4-5 coats because of the struggle, so I did not see the application as a huge inconvenience.

Secret Key Nature Recipe Sheet Mask Duo

Sheets masks rarely ever fail me and I was happy this was also the case for me. I love collecting sheet masks; the more, the merrier. I usually do not like honey and tea tree in anything, because of their taste and smell, respectively. However, I love the way these sheet masks made my skin feel. I also appreciate that Ipsy gives you two sheet masks (it is kind of like an added bonus to your glam bag). Sheet masks are so easy to apply and give your face the boost it needs in as little as 10 minutes. Ipsy, if you are reading this, definitely bring on the sheet masks!

Hikari Cosmetics Shimmer Bronzer in Flush

This bronzer had to be my favorite product out the entire glam bag. I have never used bronzer before. I will highlight, contour, and add blush. Bronzer? That is a whole different story. I was always anxious or nervous about using it because I never understood the concept. I can contour in the same places I use bronzer so why not do that? If Ipsy did not provide this bronzer, there is a high chance that I would have never used bronzers at all. While reconnecting with a friend over dinner and a movie, I got the opportunity use the bronzer and looking back at the picture (because of course, we took selfies and pictures), I was highly impressed with the results.

Are you subscribed to ipsy? Why or why not? If you are, I would love to know your thoughts on this month’s glam bag.
